Moorestock Outfitters: A Story of Local Leadership, Resilience, and Style

Located on Cowrie Street in Sechelt BC, Moorestock Outfitters is a thoughtful, welcoming boutique that reflects the strong sense of community and the charm of coastal living. Under the ownership of local entrepreneur Jessica Hemmingway, the store has evolved into a trusted destination for fashion that balances comfort, style, and quality. Moorestock has a strong emphasis on Canadian-designed brands that align with their coastal aesthetic.

After a decade of working at Moorestock, Jessica Hemmingway knew the business inside and out, and she had fallen in love with the business and the community around it. When longtime owner Nancy Palmer was ready to step back, Jessica was ready to step forward.

Just six months after taking ownership in 2019, the COVID 19 pandemic hit. She was still in the learning phase of ownership, it took a huge amount of tenacity and flexibility to navigate those early days, riding the highs and lows of staffing, supply chain issues, and the tough economic climate.

Community Futures Sunshine Coast played a big part in helping her get through those early years. From financing the purchase of the business to pausing her loan during the lockdowns, Jessica says she felt supported, seen, and understood every step of the way.

Jessica does it all, She curates every piece with her customers in mind and brings fresh energy to the Sunshine Coast’s fashion scene. Her ability to know the market, embrace change, and stay connected in community is what sets her apart. Today, Moorestock is a thriving reflection of Jessica’s values, kindness, authenticity, consistency, and connection.

She is proud to be a woman in business on the Sunshine Coast, running things on her own and hoping to show other aspiring female entrepreneurs that they can too.

Right now, Jessica is focused on tending the business she’s built, enjoying balance, and staying open to what’s next. She has learned that with the right mindset and the right people in your corner, you can do a lot more than you think.

Success is built on the foundation of community, strengthened by support and realized through working together. When we lift each other up and collaborate, we create opportunities not just for ourselves, but for everyone around us
